SIDE HUNG

Our versatile side hung windows open outward on side hinges, offering maximum opening area and excellent ventilation without taking up internal space.

The classic choice for most residential applications, providing excellent ventilation control and unobstructed views. Multi-point locking systems ensure security while maintaining the sleek aesthetics that complement both traditional and contemporary homes.

FULLY REVERSIBLE

Clean your windows safely from inside with fully reversible operation, rotating 180 degrees for complete access to both sides of the glazing.

Particularly valuable for upper floors and hard-to-reach locations, these windows rotate completely, eliminating the need for external cleaning access. They feature weatherproof sealing and varied ventilation options as users can control airflow from multiple angles.

TILT-IN

Tilt-in operation provides secure ventilation by opening inward from the top, creating a controlled airflow while maintaining security and safety.

Ideal for anywhere you want ventilation with security, a gentle inward tilt from the top edge of the window delivers fresh air while the restricted opening prevents accidental falls. The perfect combination of effective airflow, easy operation and energy efficiency.

What is a top hung window?

A top hung window is hinged at the top edge of the sash and opens outward from the bottom.

This configuration, also called an awning window, allows ventilation while directing rain away from the interior, making it particularly well-suited to bathrooms, kitchens, and rooms where air circulation is needed even during wet weather.

Can top hung windows remain open in the rain?

Yes. The top-hung opening geometry directs rainwater away from the interior opening, allowing the window to remain open for ventilation in light rain.

The degree of weather protection depends on the opening angle and the direction of rain: in driving or horizontal rain, the window may need to be fully closed. A trickle ventilator or tilt-in alternative may be preferable in very exposed locations.

Are top hung windows suitable for bathrooms?

Yes. Top hung windows are a particularly good specification for bathrooms, where continuous background ventilation with weather protection is needed.

The restricted low-level opening also reduces security risk and satisfies Building Regulations requirements for restricted opening in rooms accessible to children.

How do top hung windows differ from side hung casement windows?

A top hung window opens outward from the bottom edge; a side hung casement opens from a vertical edge.

Top hung designs provide better weather protection during ventilation, are better for restricted-height openings, and are often preferred in bathrooms and kitchens.

Side hung casements allow wider opening angles and are the more common choice for living rooms and bedrooms where maximum airflow is needed.

Do top hung windows achieve good thermal performance?

Yes. Top hung windows in the Norrsken range share the same profile systems, glazing specification, and sealing performance as all other opening configurations.

Triple-glazed top hung windows achieve whole-window Uw values consistent with the rest of the range: around 0.75 W/m²K in the popular P31A window.

Are there size limitations on top hung windows?

Top hung hardware supports a range of sash sizes, but very wide top hung windows can be impractical due to the opening geometry: a very wide sash opening outward from the bottom can create clearance issues externally.

For wide, low openings, a tilt-in or fixed frame configuration may be more practical. Our team can advise on maximum dimensions during the specification stage.
