TOP HUNG
Perfect for high-level ventilation and privacy, top hung windows open outward from the bottom with built-in friction brakes.
Ideal for bathrooms and kitchens where you want fresh air with privacy, as cool air flows in below while warm air escapes above. The design maintains excellent thermal performance and energy efficiency through advanced sealing systems.
SIDE HUNG
Our versatile side hung windows open outward on side hinges, offering maximum opening area and excellent ventilation without taking up internal space.
The classic choice for most residential applications, providing excellent ventilation control and unobstructed views. Multi-point locking systems ensure security while maintaining the sleek aesthetics that complement both traditional and contemporary homes.
FULLY REVERSIBLE
Clean your windows safely from inside with fully reversible operation, rotating 180 degrees for complete access to both sides of the glazing.
Particularly valuable for upper floors and hard-to-reach locations, these windows rotate completely, eliminating the need for external cleaning access. They feature weatherproof sealing and varied ventilation options as users can control airflow from multiple angles.
TILT-IN
Tilt-in operation provides secure ventilation by opening inward from the top, creating a controlled airflow while maintaining security and safety.
Ideal for anywhere you want ventilation with security, a gentle inward tilt from the top edge of the window delivers fresh air while the restricted opening prevents accidental falls. The perfect combination of effective airflow, easy operation and energy efficiency.
TURN-IN
The inward opening complement to side hung windows, turn-in windows swing inward on side hinges for full access, ventilation, and easy cleaning.
Opening fully inward from side hinges, these energy-efficient windows provide complete access and maximum airflow with convenient cleaning from inside. Perfect for living spaces where you want the option of wide-open connections to the outdoors.
TILT & TURN
Combining two opening modes in one window, tilt & turn offers gentle top ventilation or full side opening for maximum versatility and control.
The ultimate in window functionality, offering both tilt-in ventilation for secure airflow and full turn-in opening for cleaning and maximum ventilation. Simply turn the handle to switch between modes, giving you complete control over your indoor environment.

What is a side hung window?
A side hung window, also known as a casement window, is hinged on a vertical edge and opens outward from the opposite side.
It is the most common residential window configuration in the UK, offering full-width ventilation, unobstructed views when closed, and straightforward operation via handle and multi-point locks.
Are side hung casement windows suitable for Passive House?
Yes. Side hung casements with triple glazing, multi-point perimeter seals, and thermally efficient frames achieve airtightness performance consistent with Passive House requirements.
In the 94mm laminated timber frame with triple glazing, Norrsken's side hung windows achieve whole-window Uw values around 0.75 W/m²K - below the Passive House Institute's 0.80 W/m²K threshold.
What are the maximum sizes available for side hung casement windows?
Maximum casement sash dimensions are governed by hardware load ratings. Side hung casements can accommodate large sash areas but are subject to hardware weight limits that restrict maximum sash size.
For very large single glazed openings, fixed frames or inward-opening hardware - which supports greater sash weight - may be more practical. Norrsken's team can confirm maximum dimensions during specification.
Are side hung windows appropriate for traditional buildings?
Yes. Side hung casement windows are the historically dominant window type in UK residential architecture and are the most appropriate specification for traditional, heritage, and conservation area projects.
Norrsken's timber casements can be specified with period-appropriate profiles, glazing bars, and finishes to meet planning conditions.
How do side hung windows handle wind pressure?
Outward-opening casements use wind pressure to compress weatherseals, which actively improves airtight performance in exposed conditions. This is one reason the outward-opening casement was the standard choice in Northern European climates with variable, wind-driven weather.
