BI-FOLD
Multiple panels fold concertina-style to create expansive openings, transforming entire walls into open-air connections with your outdoor spaces.
When you want to completely open up a room to the outdoors, bi-fold doors deliver unmatched flexibility. Available as inward or outward opening systems, panels fold neatly to one or both sides, creating openings limited only by structural considerations.

Collapsible content
Are French doors thermally efficient?
French doors can be highly thermally efficient when specified with triple glazing, warm-edge spacer bars, robust seals, and thermally efficient timber or alu-clad timber frames.
Whole-door Ud values below 0.80 W/m²K are achievable in the Norrsken Passive House range, meeting the Passive House Institute's threshold.
Should French doors open inward or outward?
Both configurations are available and each has practical advantages.
Outward-opening French doors clear the internal floor space entirely but require external clearance and are more exposed to weather during use.
Inward-opening designs are more practical in exposed locations, easier to clean, and allow larger sash sizes, but require clear internal floor space when fully open.
Can French doors be specified as a single door?
Yes. Norrsken French doors – fully glazed or partially glazed – are also available as a single door for narrower openings.
Single glazed doors are a useful choice where the full width of a double set is not required but the glazed aesthetic is preferred over a panel entrance door.
How do French doors compare to sliding doors for thermal performance?
Sliding and lift-and-slide doors perform similarly to French doors, depending on the configuration and opening style.
A triple glazed inward or outward-opening Norrsken French door achieves typical U-values of 0.76 W/m²K, while an inline sliding door can achieve U-values as low as 0.72 W/m²K. For high-performance builds with strict airtightness targets, both French doors and sliding doors are suitable.
Are French doors available in timber or alu-clad?
Yes. Norrsken's French doors are available in both all-timber and alu-clad timber configurations. Alu-clad provides a powder-coated aluminium exterior in any RAL colour with a timber interior and requires no external repainting. All-timber is available where natural external finishes are preferred or required by planning.
Do French doors comply with Building Regulations U-values?
Yes, depending on the specification. French doors with whole-door Ud values at or below 1.4 W/m²K meet current Building Regulations Part L requirements for replacement doors in England.
For new builds, the door's Ud value contributes to the overall SAP energy model – the notional recommended U-value is 1.2 W/m²K or lower for new builds under the Future Homes Standard recommendations.
Norrsken's triple-glazed French doors achieve typical Ud values below 0.80 W/m²K – well below this threshold.
