Timber or Alu-Clad

Every Norrsken door frame is crafted from solid laminated timber sourced sustainably, with optional aluminIum cladding for those seeking minimal maintenance without sacrificing beauty.

The perfect door should combine reassuring solidity with smooth, effortless operation - a balance we've mastered through precision engineering and unwavering attention to detail.

  • Alu-Clad Doors

Aluminium clad timber doors are a type of composite door. These products blend two or more materials for enhanced performance, or to derive the benefits of two different materials.

Alu-clad timber doors provide all of the thermal, environmental and aesthetic benefits of timber doors, with the added bonus of minimal maintenance and maximum versatility. As suitable for heritage property renovations as they are for light-drenched new builds, our bespoke aluminium-clad timber doors are tailored to maximise your living experience.

  • Timber Doors

Timber doors offer a classic, traditional look and excellent insulation. They are stronger than uPVC doors and offer better thermal performance than most metal or uPVC frames.

Timber doors can be used in a wide range of architectural styles and enhance the beauty of any building, from futuristic new builds to heritage and listed buildings. They have also been shown to have a significantly lower carbon footprint than either uPVC doors or all-aluminium products.

Excellence that endures.

Backed by our comprehensive 10-year warranty, each product reflects our dedication to technical mastery and exceptional craftsmanship.

Our products deliver lasting performance through meticulous engineering and premium materials. Combining advanced manufacturing techniques with responsibly sourced components, we create windows and doors that exceed expectations for decades.

Premium-grade laminated timber receives multi-coat protection treatment, delivering exceptional durability and class-leading surface quality.

Powder-coated aluminium exterior cladding provides enhanced weather protection and virtually maintenance-free performance.

What types of triple-glazed doors are available?

Our main door types are: panel and framed front doors, sliding doors, and bi-folding doors.

The frames are made from laminated timber, with optional aluminium cladding for minimum maintenance.

A variety of designs and hardware are available. For technical information, see our door selector.

What is the thermal performance of triple-glazed doors?

Designed to keep your home warm, secure and stylish, our triple-glazed doors have U-values as low as 0.72W/m2K.

Several models are suitable for use in Passive House projects.

Our doors are energy-efficient thanks to insulating engineered timber frames, argon-filled glazed units with warm-edge spacer bars and excellent seals.

Are triple-glazed doors expensive?

Triple-glazed doors cost more than single or double-glazed alternatives, but price varies with the type of door, size, and configuration of sliding or folding panels.

Comparing like for like, our bi-folds tend to be the most expensive, followed by sliding doors, while French doors tend to be the most economical.

Is triple glazing worth it?

Triple glazing is more thermally efficient than double or single glazing, keeping an estimated 40-45% more heat inside your home.

Triple glazing can also be more soundproof and more secure. It is better at keeping rooms cool in summer than double glazing, preventing overheating.

Are triple-glazed doors secure?

Our triple-glazed doors all use at least one pane of laminated glass per unit.

Made from two glass panes bonded with a resinous Polyvinyl butyral interlayer, laminated glass does not shatter when cracked, providing containment and reducing the risk of falling from height.

Our doors also come with our multi-point locking system for total security.

How do sliding doors work?

Our sliding doors come in two models:

Lift-and-slide doors, which operate by turning the handle 180 degrees to ‘lift’ the entire weight of the door onto its rollers, making it effortless to slide; and inline sliders, where the active pane moves along a runner at the base of the door without lifting the leaf.

Which sliding doors are the best?

Whether you choose lift-and-slide or inline sliding doors depends on your project requirements.

Lift-and-slide doors can be manufactured to larger sizes with more flexible pane configurations, while inline sliders are perfect as balcony or smaller entrance doors.

Both move at the touch of a finger. You can also choose timber or composite and double or triple-glazed models.

What are the benefits of sliding doors?

With clean sight lines and large glass sections, sliding doors offer unrestricted views and allow natural light to flood your home.

Elegant and sleek, these doors are also space saving alternatives to folding doors, and offer excellent levels of airtightness and thermal performance.

Can sliding doors be opened both ways?

Usually, there is only one ‘active’ (sliding) leaf in a two-pane door.

However, our lift and slide doors are available in several configurations from two to four panels, and you can choose the active panel direction.

How do bi-fold doors work?

Bi-fold doors fold back against themselves concertina-style, with runners along the top and bottom of the frame to guide the movement of the leaves.

They can be fabricated to open inwards or outwards, with the leaves stacking on either side.

Why choose bi-fold doors?

Folding doors are robust, stylish, secure and allow huge flexibility with your opening.

You can use only one pane as an access door if needed, but the biggest advantage of bi-fold doors is that, when they are fully opened, the wall between your living space and garden becomes almost entirely clear.

Can bi-fold doors open inwards?

You can have bi-fold doors fabricated to open inwards or outwards.

With the leaves stacking on either side to suit your room configuration.

Bi-fold doors vs sliding doors

Sliding doors offer more uninterrupted expanses of glass than bifold doors when closed.

They typically achieve lower U-values, and having fewer moving parts to seal makes them more weatherproof.

On the other hand, bi-fold doors are more versatile, offer more ‘wow’ factor and allow seamless indoor-outdoor living.

How do french doors work?

French doors and other framed doors employ a structural timber opening leaf containing double or triple-glazed panels which are attached to the frame with hinges.

There is one ‘master’ panel, containing the handle and opening mechanism, and one ‘slave’ panel. They are fitted with an espagnolette locking mechanism.

What styles of french doors can i have?

Our French doors are available in a variety of configurations.

We offer double and triple-glazed, inward and outward opening doors in timber and alu-clad models.

Sidelights, decorative glazing bars, and larger areas of panelling can be included in the design.

How do panel doors work ?

Our timber panel doors are made from a single insulated panel in a timber frame.

Most models have optional aluminium cladding available for minimal maintenance.

Panel doors have either a veneered or painted finish and a variety of groove patterns and inset glazing panel designs are available.
