"Our only regret is not having everything installed by Norrsken"
Norrsken began working on this stunning supply-only project in 2018, after first meeting with the client 2 years previously, when the build was at planning stage.
Initially, the client was looking at all aluminium products for his new build property and wasn't sure if he wanted double or triple-glazed units. Throughout the consultation process there were numerous changes to the design and detailing, and in the end the client opted for triple-glazed alu-clad units.
Design choices
The vast array of side-hung windows, tilt-and-turn windows, sliding doors, bi-fold doors and large fixed screens allow natural daylight to flood the living areas, whilst the solar control glass maximises thermal efficiency and prevents overheating. The colour scheme of the products is clean and crisp, both internally and externally. Externally, the windows and doors are RAL 9001 (Cream) and internally they are RAL 9003 (Signal white).
Technical complexity
One of the greatest challenges that Norrsken faced on this project was to ensure that all of the ground floor (GF) and first floor (FF) units lined through correctly. This was certainly the case when considering the large triple track slider and the fixed screen above. There were similar challenges with the windows, as the FF windows were inward opening and the GF windows were outward opening, the team had to ensure that the profiles were carefully aligned.
Norrsken also had to take into account a number of practical considerations. For example, some of the windows had an infill panel design and they had to ensure that the units didn't get too heavy and that the panels were correctly situated right in front of the finished floor levels.
The whole team consider this a wonderful project to have been involved with, and the finished build is fantastic, but how does the client feel about the experience?
"We travelled up and down the country visiting manufacturers and many self-build shows. We finally settled on Norrsken as their alu-clad product was of better quality and significantly cheaper than the nearest like-for-like UK manufactured product. We are delighted with our doors and windows, which are both easy to use and to keep clean. Our only regret is not having everything installed by Norrsken, as we're sure it would have been a smoother process. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Norrsken."
