HOW DO I MEASURE ?

Measuring for new windows and doors should be carried out by an expert but measuring up for the purpose of an estimate is easy, just measure the height and width of the space that your original window currently sits in. Open the window and measure the depth from the front of the sill to the back of the unit. That will allow us to give you an estimate.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

WHAT IS THE U-VALUE?

The U-value or “overall heat transfer co-efficient” shows how well a building product conducts heat. In other words, the U-value represents the rate of heat transfer through a building element, such as a wall, floor or window, over a given area and under agreed standard conditions. For ease of understanding; the lower the number, the cosier you’ll be. Norrsken windows and doors go as low as 0.7 – it doesn’t get much cosier than that!

HOW LONG DOES ARGON GAS REMAIN INSIDE THE GLAZED UNIT?

Glazing units are manufactured inside an Argon environment. Glazing cavities are sealed with an elastic material to hermetic separation from its surroundings. The European quality standards for insulated glazing units allow the maximum reduction rate of 1% a year for Argon gas. This means that there is no significant decrease in thermal insulation during the lifetime of your window.

WHY DOES CONDENSATION OCCUR?

Condensation is a natural phenomenon, which happens if the temperature drops below the dew point. There is always some water vapor in the air and when the temperature of the glass is cooler than the dew point, condensation occurs. Internal condensation is caused by high internal air moisture and a cooler glazing surface. It usually starts on the bottom edge of the glass.

Internal condensation is a complex matter with many causes including internal air moisture, room temperature, internal air convection, ventilation, heating system etc. this is a natural occurrence on all windows from time to time.

External condensation is caused by the cooling of the external glass pane. Condensation usually occurs in the middle area of the glazing. It mostly happens during spring and autumn when the air humidity is higher and the air temperature is lower. In some extreme situations during winter the external surface of the glazing is covered with ice for a short period.

Although it may seem unpleasant, external condensation is actually an indication of high-energy efficiency – it means your homes internal heat is not warming the external glass pane.

HOW DOES SGG SWISSPACER HELP?

SGG Swisspacer will lower the risk of internal condensation. The spacer bar inside the glazing unit is responsible for the linear thermal transmittance as it forms a cold bridge. To reduce heat loss through the edges of the glazing area materials are used with a lower thermal conductivity. SGG Swisspacer is warm edge technology applied to improve thermal comfort and ultimately make your windows even more efficient.

WILL NORRSKEN HELP ME TO REDUCE MY ENERGY BILLS, BE GREEN AND MEET FUTURE BUILDING STANDARDS?

Yes, yes and yes! Upgrading the thermal efficiency of your windows and doors will make your home more comfortable to live in, help you to reduce your carbon footprint and help you cut your energy bills and Kermit will be a happy frog.
